100 Days without makeup: revealing what really lies beneath
SVA MASTERS IN BRANDING pROJECT
why makeup?
Since a very young age I was enamored by beauty products. I remember my aunt wearing blue mascara and thinking to myself, "Wow, one day I want to add color to my face just like that!" Then and there a makeup enthusiast was born. By the age of seven I was painting the faces of my cousins (not very skillfully) and myself with my new Christmas gift–a makeup starter set. We cruised around the street in our new Barbie car with blue eyeshadow, hot pink lips and rosy cheeks to match. It was the beginning of a lifelong love affair and the color filled life I'd dreamed for myself.
When choosing a topic that relates to my personal brand, no product has shaped who I am and how I view the world more then the ones in my makeup bag. This project revealed the evolution of my relationship with makeup and insights into the world of womanhood.

PROJECT
We all have things we hide behind, a sort of protective armor we wear. Mine was makeup. It concealed my imperfections, accentuated my best features and ultimately let me create a near flawless image of myself to world; it let me put my best face forward.
Braving the world barefaced and makeup free from 100 days was initially frightening–scratch that, terrifying. Throughout this project I attended my first week long professional conference, a best friends wedding, grad school graduation and normal day-to-day activities; all without makeup. I choose to strip away the additional decorations and confidence boosting properties that makeup provides and reveal what really lies beneath. Throughout this project I witnessed and experienced the social norms and cultural influences that affect how women view themselves and their self worth.
Each day was documented on the blog, 100 Days Without Makeup. Posts showcase a daily picture of my face, my outfit and a daily questionnaire listing stats on items that affect your skin.
